Volunteer

Almost every job at the Foodbank is done by our team of awesome volunteers

Volunteering with us is a fun and rewarding way to make a real difference, meet great people, and build new skills. The Lower Hutt Foodbank has one paid employee, our Service Coordinator - every other role is undertaken by our team of volunteers.

We currently need volunteers to undertake the current roles:

·        Supermarket pick ups in Lower Hutt on Monday or Thursday

·        Packing food parcels – Monday morning, Monday afternoon or Tuesday afternoon

·        Casual volunteer pool – on call support to cover shifts when regular volunteers are unavailable.

Our volunteers assist with a variety of tasks including :

-        *Collecting donations from supermarket food bins in Lower Hutt and Petone

-        *Collecting bread from Pak ‘n Save, Lower Hutt at 7.30am

-        *Packing parcels at our Lower Hutt premises (mornings)

-        *Collect food from Kaibosh, Petone at 8am

-        *Re-stocking shelves, cleaning and breaking down products (afternoons)

-        *Breaking down grocery products (Thursday mornings)

-        Helping with fundraising activities

-        Coordinating volunteers

-        Supporting supermarket drives

*These volunteer shifts are once a week on a rostered basis.

Roles which involve collection from supermarkets or Kaibosh require access to a vehicle large enough vehicle to transport a number of boxes.

We aim to respond to volunteer enquiries within three working days. If we do not currently have a role which would suit you, we would be happy to keep your details on file and contact you when an opportunity becomes available. You can also be part of our casual pool which helps us to cover shifts when one of our regular volunteers is unavailable. This casual pool is ideal if you are unable to commit to a regular weekly shift but would still like to help from time to time.
