• We are looking forward to this day when the community makes a special effort to donate food for our Lower Hutt Foodbank and are always so generous. Stocks are really low at present due to a noticeable increase in demand. Foodbanks around the country are experiencing this increase as well with a marked increase in the number of clients living in cars. So look out for the foodbank trolley on 26 May at both Pak 'n Saves, LH New World and High St Countdown. See you there!

  • The public donated a record amount of food in the lead up to Christmas - badly needed not only before Christmas but now, when families are faced with major costs of school uniforms, fees and books. a big thank you to all who gave so generously.

  • Pak 'n Save supermarkets in Petone and Lower Hutt matched public food donations dollar for dollar. This means Petone supermarket was able to give the Foodbank a cheque for $11,800! This is a wonderful help and will enable us to buy food basics that have not been donated without having to apply for funding from other sources. Lower Hutt Pak 'n Save donated a further $2000. Both supermarkets have been presented with Certificates of Appreciation, a small recognition for a huge contribution. Many thanks Pak 'n Save!

  • It is with much pleasure that we welcome Beverley Driver who started work with the Foodbank earlier this month. She comes with a strong background in the government, business and voluntary sectors.

  • Once again the Lower Hutt community responded in spades to requests for food for our families in need. Not only that but Rotary and Lions Club volunteers put in a mammoth effort to collect food bags from the whole district filling our shelves and storage area. A great back up for the increased demands we expect before Christmas. Thanks to the Hutt News for their support too. We have a great community which thinks of others less well-off than themselves. A fine community effort.

  • May 27 saw another Newztalk ZB supermarket food drive. As usual, the Hutt Valley community were very generous and have filled the foodbank shelves again. We thank everyone who donated on that day and for continuing public support. It makes us feel proud to be providing a service in such a public spirited community. Well done Hutt Valley!

  • After a very effective 2 years in the Chair, Juliet Clare stood down at the AGM in August 2016 but lucky for us has stayed on the Committee. We have been really fortunate to have Mark Vallance as the new Chair to carry on Juliet's great work. Mark came recommended through Volunteer Hutt and has brought much experience working with the non-profit sector. He has already shown himself to have invaluable knowledge around recent legislative changes and other bureaucratic requirements. It's great to have you Mark!

  • Hutt City libraries ran a 'Food for Fines'scheme in the lead up to Christmas which meant people could pay their library fine with non-perishable food items. This was a fantastically successful plan which raised many thousands of dollars of food. Big thank yous to all the 9 libraries that participated and to the staff who coordinated, collected and delivered all the food. Great Job!!

  • The Foodbank has been overwhelmed once again with the generosity of people in Lower Hutt who clearly understand the degree of the struggle some families and individuals are having, especially at Christmas. Thank you on behalf of the many households that benefitted from this generosity.

  • There were many heart-warming stories over the Christmas period but 2 in particular - 12 year old Ella Livingstone spent her grandparents $100 birthday gift on food for the Foodbank and a 5 year old girl (whose name we regret not asking for) who asked the friends she invited to her party to bring food for the Foodbank instead of presents for her. There were other lots of other stories reflecting Lower Hutt peoples' generous natures. Bravo!!

  • For the month of December, Hutt City libraries will waive your library fine if you donate food for the Foodbank. Five dollars worth of fines will be wiped from your record for every food item you bring in. Many thanks to Hutt City for this initiative. We hear the food is rolling in! Keep it coming!

  • The next supermarket food drive will be held in all Lower Hutt supermarkets (apart from Petone Countdown) on Saturday, November 21. Volunteers will be on hand to collect public donations of food from 9am to 3pm. Lower Hutt people have always been very generous helping us to provide adequate food to needy families over the holiday period.
