  • Once again the Lower Hutt community has come up trumps with its generous response to the Newztalk ZB Food Drive last month. Because of your giving, the Foodbank is able to assist more families and individuals who are struggling to make ends meet. A heartfelt thank you.

  • For the month of December, Hutt City libraries will waive your library fine if you donate food for the Foodbank. Five dollars worth of fines will be wiped from your record for every food item you bring in. Many thanks to Hutt City for this initiative. We hear the food is rolling in! Keep it coming!

  • The next supermarket food drive will be held in all Lower Hutt supermarkets (apart from Petone Countdown) on Saturday, November 21. Volunteers will be on hand to collect public donations of food from 9am to 3pm. Lower Hutt people have always been very generous helping us to provide adequate food to needy families over the holiday period.

  • The Lower Hutt Community Foodbank has a new home and is now located at 27 Dudley Street, in the Hutt CBD. The lease was signed just 2 days before having to vacate the Council owned premises at 47 Laings Road.

  • The bi-annual Newstalk ZB sponsored supermarket food drive was held on Saturday 15 November. This is a twice a year event in which all the foodbanks within the Wellington region participate. Once again it was a big success for the Lower Hutt Foodbank as over 15 supermarket trolleys were filled to the brim with donated food items.

  • For the first six months of 2014 there continues to be a high demand for food parcels. On average, the Foodbank provided 149 food parcels a month from January to the end of June, or a total of 895 parcels. These parcels supported over 1300 adults and over 1400 children.

  • The Lower Hutt Foodbank received $9000 in June 2014 for the purchase of food and other items to fill gaps in donated supplies in the six months to December 2014. The Foodbank is grateful to Pub Charity for their continued support.

  • The Foodbank committee has decided to cancel the annual Lions and Rotary food drive scheduled for September this year. ‘We don’t think we should have a food drive in September when we don’t know if the Foodbank will still be in operation after the beginning of October’, says Eric Wadsworth who has been coordinating the food drive with Hutt Valley Lions and Rotary Clubs.

  • Good In The Hood Donation
    For the month of March the Foodbank has received a cheque from the Z station on Hutt Road for $1000 via their Good In The Hood programme. A big thank you to all who selected the Lower Hutt Foodbank as their charity of choice.
