  • Another wonderful response from a very generous Lower Hutt community. A huge thank you to all our contributors. And what wonderful work the service club volunteers picking up thousands of bags of food from all the streets in Lower Hutt and the Bays. And thanks to Hutt News for organising the distribution of bags and to Z- Energy for accepting unclaimed bags on our behalf. A team of Foodbank volunteers worked their butts off in the afternoon, sorting and storing all the food. All round a very successful day indeed!!

  • Young William Hoeksma deserves a big bouquet for asking friends to his 9th birthday not to bring him a present but to bring something for the Foodbank. The result was a very generous contribution to Foodbank supplies. Well done William. We need more like you!

  • Nearly 30,000 food donation bags will be delivered to households across the Lower Hutt region along with your Hutt News. The result will provide several months worth of provisions for families and individuals in need. The Hutt community is always very generous with its contributions, enabling the foodbank to provide over 2000 emergency food parcels per year, large enough to feed a family for a week. Households will need to put their donation bags at their gate by 12 noon after which the Lions and Rotary will be collecting. So bring it on Lower Hutt and live up to your wonderfully generous reputation.

  • What a wonderful response we had once again to our supermarket food drive on 26 May. Stocks had dwindled alarmingly due to increased demand on our service so to have our shelves full again is very reassuring. It means we can assist families and individuals get through the winter months with our emergency food parcels. So a big thank you Lower Hutt!

  • The Student Services Committee of Hutt Valley High recently organised a highly successful call for cans for our Foodbank. Students came up trumps and between them contributed 1700 cans of food. So a big thank you especially to the students who organised the event and to the students for responding so generously.

  • We are looking forward to this day when the community makes a special effort to donate food for our Lower Hutt Foodbank and are always so generous. Stocks are really low at present due to a noticeable increase in demand. Foodbanks around the country are experiencing this increase as well with a marked increase in the number of clients living in cars. So look out for the foodbank trolley on 26 May at both Pak 'n Saves, LH New World and High St Countdown. See you there!

  • The public donated a record amount of food in the lead up to Christmas - badly needed not only before Christmas but now, when families are faced with major costs of school uniforms, fees and books. a big thank you to all who gave so generously.

  • Pak 'n Save supermarkets in Petone and Lower Hutt matched public food donations dollar for dollar. This means Petone supermarket was able to give the Foodbank a cheque for $11,800! This is a wonderful help and will enable us to buy food basics that have not been donated without having to apply for funding from other sources. Lower Hutt Pak 'n Save donated a further $2000. Both supermarkets have been presented with Certificates of Appreciation, a small recognition for a huge contribution. Many thanks Pak 'n Save!

  • It is with much pleasure that we welcome Beverley Driver who started work with the Foodbank earlier this month. She comes with a strong background in the government, business and voluntary sectors.

  • Once again the Lower Hutt community responded in spades to requests for food for our families in need. Not only that but Rotary and Lions Club volunteers put in a mammoth effort to collect food bags from the whole district filling our shelves and storage area. A great back up for the increased demands we expect before Christmas. Thanks to the Hutt News for their support too. We have a great community which thinks of others less well-off than themselves. A fine community effort.

  • May 27 saw another Newztalk ZB supermarket food drive. As usual, the Hutt Valley community were very generous and have filled the foodbank shelves again. We thank everyone who donated on that day and for continuing public support. It makes us feel proud to be providing a service in such a public spirited community. Well done Hutt Valley!

  • After a very effective 2 years in the Chair, Juliet Clare stood down at the AGM in August 2016 but lucky for us has stayed on the Committee. We have been really fortunate to have Mark Vallance as the new Chair to carry on Juliet's great work. Mark came recommended through Volunteer Hutt and has brought much experience working with the non-profit sector. He has already shown himself to have invaluable knowledge around recent legislative changes and other bureaucratic requirements. It's great to have you Mark!

  • Petone Pak'n Save subsidised food donations from 1 Oct to 24 Dec dollar for dollar. The public gave over $7000 worth of food over that time which means that the Foodbank collects food at a total of over $14,000 value. Thanks a million Pak 'n Save!!

  • Hutt City libraries ran a 'Food for Fines'scheme in the lead up to Christmas which meant people could pay their library fine with non-perishable food items. This was a fantastically successful plan which raised many thousands of dollars of food. Big thank yous to all the 9 libraries that participated and to the staff who coordinated, collected and delivered all the food. Great Job!!

  • The Foodbank has been overwhelmed once again with the generosity of people in Lower Hutt who clearly understand the degree of the struggle some families and individuals are having, especially at Christmas. Thank you on behalf of the many households that benefitted from this generosity.

  • There were many heart-warming stories over the Christmas period but 2 in particular - 12 year old Ella Livingstone spent her grandparents $100 birthday gift on food for the Foodbank and a 5 year old girl (whose name we regret not asking for) who asked the friends she invited to her party to bring food for the Foodbank instead of presents for her. There were other lots of other stories reflecting Lower Hutt peoples' generous natures. Bravo!!
