The Lower Hutt Foodbank Committee would like to thank all those who have donated much needed food and funds to the Lower Hutt Foodbank over the Christmas / New Year period. The charity expressed by businesses, groups and individuals within the Hutt community is truly humbling.
In October we re-established our operation within new premises on Dudley Street in the Hutt Central, having to vacate our former home after eight years at the back of the Horticultural Hall when earth-quake strengthening work started on the Council buildings. It was important for us to be located centrally, near transportation links so that all of our clients through-out the whole valley could readily access our services without incuring additional travelling time and cost burdens. It was also important to be located near many of the other support agencies that we work with, and whom are also working with many of the same clients.
Any move of premises is a stressful time so the Foodbank Committee is very grateful to the businesses that have contributed their time and services to minimizing the stress incurred by the Foodbank. Special mention is given to Ray White Real Estate in Lower Hutt, ARL Lawyers, NZ Van Lines, Safeway Self Storage and Strongline Security Limited for their generious assistance.
The demands on the Foodbank leading up to the Christmas holiday season have traditionally been very high and this year has been no exception. In the week leading up to Christmas we distributed close to 100 food parcels feeding approximately 500 adults and children. Generious donations from the community helped make this possible. A special thank-you to Pac'n Save in Petone for their very generious donation of food stuff. With school starting and many families struggling to find the funds for new school uniforms, school supplies and school activity and sport fees, the demands on the Foodbank are expected to continue into 2015.
Once again the Foodbank Committee would like to express our heart-felt thanks to all our supporters within the Hutt community. We wish you all a healthy and prosperous 2015.
